FAQs
How do I start the process of booking a tattoo?
First, do your research. Do not go by pricing or advice from others. Skin types vary so what worked for someone else might not work for your skin type. Then collect some design ideas. Due to the artist tattooing all day and COVID, our consultations remain by appointment only. We are not usually able to accommodate walk-in consults but it never hurts to call the shop or drop by. The consult does not mean you are obligated to proceed. After looking through the artist profiles please contact the desired artist to book your consult:
Dita: silverskulltattoostudio@mail.com or ditak@live.ca
We also have an apprentice (stay tuned for when she starts tattooing!) and other support staff that can help answer any questions you may have. The consult is your opportunity to ask questions and speak to your artist. Once you are comfortable, the artist will take your deposit and book your appointment. A small tattoo deposit is $50, a medium tattoo is $100, and a large tattoo is $250. The large tattoo deposit rolls over to the final session and comes off the final sitting total. At your consult, the artist can discuss how pricing works more specifically to your tattoo.
When is it recommended NOT to get a tattoo?
We have a comprehensive waiver form that covers this topic in depth. You will be asked to confirm that you have consulted your doctor if you have: epilepsy, hemophilia, diabetes, are pregnant or nursing, have had an organ or bone marrow transplant, take blood thinners, have a heart condition, and or have high blood pressure. In addition it is not recommended to get a tattoo on a sun burnt area, or if you know a tattoo would negatively impact your physical or mental health. Tattoo artists are not a substitute for a medical professional.
What if I need to rebook or cancel my appointment?
As stated on the deposit form; We require three days notice for cancellations, to ensure you do not lose your deposit. If the artwork has already been completed at that time then you will receive the artwork to take with you instead of your deposit. If you do not show up for your appointment without notice, your deposit will be lost and you will need to leave another deposit in order to book another appointment.
What if I have skin between a 5 and 10 on the pigment scale and I am wondering how the design will translate on my skin?
If you are wondering about this, bring it up at your consultation! That is the place to ask questions to your satisfaction, a tattoo is a permanent change to your body. There are ways to compliment all skin tones. For example using colour theory, body flow, and or some custom alterations to your design can still make the tattoo ‘pop’ as you envisioned; however you have to share your vision with your artist so they can work with you and your skin. What results are you hoping for? How can we best achieve it on your personal pigment canvas?
What does a trauma informed tattoo mean?
If you are seeking a trauma informed tattoo, it is your responsibility to inform the artist of specific ways to make the tattoo process more comfortable for you; For example: asking ways to to keep covered up if you are concerned about the tattoo location and being able to keep covered up during the tattoo; asking where you will be touched if the tattoo is close to an intimate area; requesting to be called a different name than appears on your legal documentation; or sharing if you had a negative tattoo experience in the past. Silver Skull Tattoo Studio strives to be a safe space for all customers.
What if I have concerns about my aftercare/healing?
Thorough after care instructions are given and the artist will monitor your progress for seven days following your tattoo. It is your responsibility to follow instructions. Though every precaution is taken to prevent infections, they can still happen. Any touch up work that is needed due to neglecting aftercare instructions will be completed at your own expense.
